Every year it happens.
We spend months dreaming about summer. We count down to long weekends, vacations, afternoons by the lake, backyard cookouts, and evenings when the sun doesn't seem to set until bedtime. Then suddenly someone points out that it's almost August, and it feels like the season slipped through our fingers.
If you're feeling that way, you're definitely not alone. Between work, family schedules, appointments, sports, and everything else life throws our way, summer has a way of filling itself before we even realize it.
The good news is that there's still plenty of time to enjoy it.
The best summer memories rarely come from perfectly planned vacations. More often, they're the simple moments that happen when we decide to put the phones down, head outside, and enjoy whatever the day has to offer.
Maybe that's spending an afternoon at the beach with a good book before cooling off with an ice cream cone on the ride home. Maybe it's packing a picnic instead of eating at the kitchen table surrounded by screens, or taking a family bike ride simply because the weather is too nice to stay inside.
There are hiking trails waiting to be explored, playgrounds full of laughter, lakes that are still warm enough for cannonballs off the dock, and campfires just waiting for marshmallows. If you're a Path Vacations member, the campground at Steele Hill Resort offers another great way to squeeze in one more overnight adventure before summer fades into fall.
If your family is looking for something a little more exciting, spend a day around Weirs Beach. Challenge each other to mini golf, race go-karts, cool off on the bumper boats, play a few arcade games, or simply enjoy walking the boardwalk with something sweet in hand. It doesn't have to be an all-day event to become one of those memories everyone laughs about months later.
One of the nicest things about this time of year is that you don't need an elaborate itinerary. A quick stop for ice cream after dinner, watching the sunset over the lake, eating outside on the patio, or camping in the backyard can be just as memorable as a weekend getaway. Summer has a way of making ordinary moments feel a little more special.
So don't let the calendar convince you that you've missed your chance.
There are still warm evenings ahead, still weekends to fill, and still opportunities to create the kinds of memories that make February feel a little less cold. We wait all year for this season, and it deserves to be enjoyed right up until the very last sunset.
August isn't the end of summer. It's simply a reminder to make the most of what's still ahead.
